Wil (He/They)

Executive Director

Wil Kunyk is an experienced nonprofit leader, strategist, and community builder with more than 20 years of experience creating stronger organizations, building meaningful partnerships, and advancing positive change across Alberta.

Throughout his career, Wil has worked at the intersection of nonprofit leadership, community development, fundraising, government relations, equity and inclusion, and social impact. He has led organizations and teams, managed complex programs and funding portfolios, developed strategic partnerships, and contributed to successful multi-million-dollar fundraising initiatives.

Wil’s leadership philosophy is grounded in a simple belief: the strongest organizations and communities are built when people feel heard, valued, and included.

Known for his ability to build relationships across sectors and perspectives, Wil is equally comfortable engaging with community members, nonprofit leaders, donors, volunteers, businesses, and senior government officials. His career has given him the opportunity to work with organizations and communities throughout Edmonton, Central Alberta, Calgary, and rural Alberta, developing a strong understanding of both the diversity and interconnectedness of the province.

His professional experience includes executive nonprofit leadership, strategic planning, fundraising and donor engagement, grants administration, stakeholder relations, organizational development, community investment, and the design of equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

As an Executive Director, Wil has been responsible for organizational strategy, operations, partnerships, funding, grants administration, advocacy, and supporting teams working on complex social and community issues.

Wil brings a distinctly human approach to leadership. His own life experiences have shaped his understanding of opportunity, poverty, belonging, resilience, and the barriers that can prevent talented people from reaching their potential. Those experiences continue to inform his commitment to socioeconomic equity and to ensuring that conversations about inclusion recognize people whose struggles are not always visible — including individuals and families living paycheque to paycheque.

At the heart of Wil’s work is an ability to bring people together. He believes meaningful change rarely comes from one organization, sector, or perspective alone. It happens when people are willing to listen to one another, challenge assumptions, build trust, and work toward a shared purpose.

Whether developing strategy, strengthening an organization, building a partnership, leading a fundraising initiative, or tackling a difficult community challenge, Wil brings curiosity, empathy, practicality, and a strong focus on turning ideas into action.

His goal is straightforward: build stronger organizations, create more inclusive communities, and leave things better than he found them.
